Just seven minutes from Cole Apartments is a destination that strives to tell the story of Texas.
It’s called the Bullock Texas State History Museum, and nearly nine million people have walked through the doors since 2001.
The museum showcases some of the state’s most significant artifacts and offers much to see and do such as:
Second Floor Gallery
Step inside the second floor gallery to explore the state’s history from 1821 to 1936. It highlights the people, places, and events during this period, and takes time to fully enjoy. Highlights include riding the Texas plains with the Comanche and sitting behind Stephan’s F. Austin’s long-leaf desk.
Third Floor Gallery
Known for capturing Texas’s emergence on the national scene in the twentieth century, the third floor gallery showcases everything from ranching artifacts to music with Texas sensibilities.
The museum’s IMAX Theatre comes complete with the largest screen in the state. Ticket purchases help to support the exhibitions and educational programming, and films currently showing include:
Conquest of the Skies (playing through February 28, 2019)
Conquest of the Skies is a fascinating movie that uses special effects to uncover the 300-million-year story of flight. It tells how animals rose up and conquered the skies, and features night flyers such as bats and owls.
Amazon Adventure (playing through August 31, 2019)
Follow the interesting eleven-year journey of Henry Bates who visited the Brazilian Amazon in the 1850s. He identified more than eight thousand species new to science, and his work will continue to be talked about for generations to come.
