Whether you enjoy chocolate, butter pecan, or salted caramel, you’ll find these flavors and more at the ice cream parlors in Austin. If you want the best place for a cool summer treat, then check out one of the following options:
Lick Honest Ice Creams
Chad and Anthony grew up in small communities where they enjoyed homemade ice cream. When they decided to create their own recipes, they opened Lick Honest Ice Creams. They make flavors fresh daily, and over 70 percent of the ingredients come from local farmers and artisans. The shop boasts a 4.5-star rating on Yelp as guests appreciate the unique offerings, fresh waffle cones, and free samples. Choices include caramel salt lick, Texas sheet cake, and coffee with cream.
The Prohibition Creamery is where you’ll find intoxicating handcrafted delights. Founder Laura combines her two favorite indulgences (alcohol and ice cream) and created the recipes in her home kitchen. She attended Penn State University’s century-old ice cream program and spent years learning how to infuse spirits into ice cream. The shop’s uniqueness has earned it attention from Austin Monthly and National Restaurant News among other publications. Flavors include Black Magic, Prickly Pear Mezcal, and The Green Fairy.
Spun Ice Cream
Established by two sisters from Austin, Spun Ice Cream specializes in fresh, seasonal flavors made with liquid nitrogen. The varieties are made using local dairy, organic spices, and fair trade chocolate. The liquid nitrogen helps provide a smoother, creamier texture without the use of added milk fat. In addition to the ice cream, the waffle cones, Texas pecan brittle, and toppings are also made in house. Flavors include coco strawberry, vanilla, and dark chocolate.
