Must-See Lakes in Austin

Whether you want to exercise, clear your mind, or take a break from the bustling city, nature can help. A short drive from our South Lamar apartments at Cole Apartments, you can find some of the most beautiful lakes in Austin. Here are our highlights:

Zilker Metropolitan Park

This park was built in 1917 and has over 350 acres of land. Enjoy a miniature train ride through the park, reserve a picnic table, or rent a boat. Hike or walk through the wilderness that offers plenty of flat paths or take a dip into the water. You will pass waterfalls along the path and get plenty of beautiful views of the river along your way. There’s a free entry into the botanical gardens where you can also view the butterfly garden.

Lady Bird Lake

This park offers 468 acres of land to explore. Take a paddleboard or kayak into the clear lake or bike your way through the well-kept trails. If you just want to relax, then it’s the perfect place to watch the sunset. Birds, turtles, snakes, and other types of wildlife are known to appear throughout your time spent in the park, so it’s a good place for bird watching. There’s a fishing area as well and a boardwalk with benches.

Hamilton Pool Road

Founded in 1990, this swimming hole is a natural area that consists of a 50 ft waterfall that is surrounded by greenery. The water is very blue and it’s covered by a natural cove that will offer you a break from the sunlight. You can hike through the trail and wind up at this beautiful oasis. The trail is about 1.8 miles and can take up to two hours to complete.
