Stack Up Hours of Fun at Home by Playing Cards

Have some fun while spending quality time at your Cole Apartments home. If you’re like most apartment owners, you’ve got a stack of playing cards sitting on a shelf or stashed in a draw. Pull out those cards and get ready for several fun-filled hours with these classic card games.

Pig

In this fast-paced game, pay attention as players pass cards. You do not want to be caught as the last player standing or the Pig. The goal is to be the first player to assemble four of a kind in your hand. As soon as you’ve got four of a kind, stop and put a finger on your nose. As other players realize your triumph, they’ll also stop and put a finger to their noses. It’s that easy!

To get started, shuffle a standard deck of 52 playing cards and deal four cards to each of five or more players. Each player can look at his or her hand before starting the game. Now, each player passes a card, face down, to his or her left. Everyone picks up a new card, quickly organizes hands, and passes another face-down card to the left. Continue passing, at a quick pace until the last player standing, the Pig, is out.

Old Maid

Another great match, the game of Old Maid will keep everyone in suspense until the end. Remove one Queen from a standard deck of 52 playing cards and shuffle the remaining cards. Deal the entire deck to two, three, four, or more players. Before the game begins, each player removes all pairs from his or her hand and places the pairs face down.

To play, the dealer begins by offering the cards of his hand face down to the player to his left. The player selects one card. Then, this player offers the cards of her hand face down to the player on her left. The next player selects one card. Play continues while players match pairs and remove the pairs from their hands. The first player to discard all of his cards wins! But, the Old Maid will be left with unmatched Queens.
